The 2017 Nevada Session has two thirds of the session left. RPEN has been watching several bills that can have an impact on our members. Senator Roberson has introduced SB297 which is like AB71. Both bills call for a hybrid 401k type pension plan for all new employees and any current employee who would like to leave the current PERS pension plan. RPEN is opposed to both bills. PERS has been subjected to several reform measures within the last few legislative sessions and we feel the system should be given the opportunity to fully realize the benefits of the past reform measures before any new “reforms” are brought forth. He also introduced SB217 looking to change the makeup of the PERS Board allowing members from the private sector.
Monday March 20 is the deadline for Legislator’s Bill Introductions. RPEN’s Lead Lobbyist Marlene Lockard is tracking over 30 bills, dealing with a variety of topics that impact public employees in one way or another. She is watching for any new bills that may be introduced and keeps the membership aware with Legislature Alerts.
