As I was contemplating the subject for this column I read the following headline in the Las Vegas Review Journal: “Government Employee Salaries, payouts and pensions will floor you”, written by Victor Joecks, former employee of NPRI (Nevada Policy Research Institute) and current columnist for the Review Journal. As usual his column states facts and then twists them to give the public a false representation. The author references high pension payouts to various retirees giving the impression that PERS retiree pensions are too high. He further cites the median household income in Nevada of $55,180 but he does not mention the fact the average monthly pension from the PERS regular fund is $2,899. The average monthly pension for the PERS Police/Fire fund is $5,407.
